Alabama 65 is a story of men, a story of chain.

The human chain that connects one man to another; the relay is passed on, from hand to hand, by word of mouth, that is how History is made, that is how man lives. That is how songs remain ever present, how they travel through time and continents.

The chain that, in the 1940s, connected black convicts to two curious white ethnologists, a father and his son, who decided to take the early portable tape recorders into Mississipi State Penitentiary to gather together these plaints to tell the tale of violence and inhumanity.

The chains around the ankles of black-skinned convicts, men who bend but never break. Locked up but free to sing about absence, loss and women. Chained but free to sing on the road that leads them from Parchman Farm Penitentiary to the cotton fields where they work for free from dawn to dusk, where you are less than a man, less than nothing. Chained, battered, tortured but free to sing not to die of exhaustion and despair.

That is how songs remain ever present, how time carried them from the cotton fields of Mississipi to the ears of two 21st century boys, David Hachour and Alexandre Destrez. The chain that connects yesterday and today, Parchamn Farm and Marly-le-roi. Somewhere between Versailles (Air, Phoenix) and Saint-Germain-en-Laye (St Germain), somewhere west of the Capital (between Kings of France and French touch), David Hachour and Alexandre Destrez, met when they were still teenagers and have remained friends since.

My first has become DJ and producer (“OSCAR”, "DUOLOGIC") and created the labels Denote and Blank Project.

My second plays the piano on St Germain’s albums (“Tourist”, “Boulevard”), and Shazz’s (a friend of St Germain’s) as well as on the well known Overhead’s “Silent Witness”.

My whole is Alabama 65, the story of two childhood friends who decided to give the voices of the forgotten people of Parchman Farm a music to lie down on, and be alive. This is how men live.

ALABAMA 65 est une histoire d’hommes, une histoire de chaîne.

La chaîne qui mène d’un homme à l’autre, on se passe le relais, de mains en mains, de bouche à oreille, c’est comme ça que l’histoire se fait, c’est ainsi que les hommes vivent. C’est ainsi que les chansons ne meurent pas, qu’elles traversent les époques et les continents.

La chaîne qui, dans les années 40, relia des prisonniers noirs à deux curieux blancs, un père et un fils, éthnologues, qui décidèrent de promener les tout premiers magnétophones portables dans un pénitentier du Mississipi pour recueillir ces complaintes, pour raconter la violence et l’inhumanité.

Les chaînes aux pieds des forçats, noirs de peau, des hommes qui plient mais ne rompent pas, enfermés mais libres de chanter l’absence, la perte, les femmes. Enchaînés, mais libres de chanter sur les chemins qui mènent du pénitentier de Parchman Farm aux champs de coton où on travaille pour rien du lever du jour au coucher du soleil, où l’on n’est moins qu’un homme, moins que rien. Entravés, battus, torturés mais libres de chanter pour ne pas mourir d’épuisement, de désespoir.

C’est ainsi que les chansons ne meurent pas, que le temps les emporte des champs de coton du Missippi aux oreilles de deux garçons du XXIème siècle, David Hachour et Alexandre Destrez…

La chaîne qui lie hier à aujourd’hui, Parchman farm à Marly-le-roi. Quelque part entre Versailles (Air, Phoenix) et Saint-Germain-en-Laye (St. Germain), quelque part à l’Ouest de la capitale (entre rois de France et French touch), David Hachour et Alexandre Destrez, encore adolescents, se sont trouvés et pas quittés.

Mon premier est devenu DJ Producteur (“OSCAR”, "DUOLOGIC") et créateur des labels Denote et Blank Project.

Mon second est le pianiste des albums de ST. GERMAIN (“Tourist”, “Boulevard”), de SHAZZ ( lui même comparse de St. Germain), et du très remarqué “Silent Witness” du groupe OVERHEAD …

Mon tout fait Alabama 65, l’histoire de deux amis d’enfance qui ont voulu donner aux voix des oubliés de Parchman Farm une musique où s’étendre pour ne pas mourir.

C’est ainsi que les hommes vivent.
